Rich Baum founded Northwest Outside Counsel & Litigation Management Service in 2015 to provide clients with practical, business-savvy legal advice in a timely and cost-effective manner. Prior to founding Northwest Outside Counsel & Litigation Management Service, Rich served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Northwest Pipe Company, a publicly-traded steel pipe manufacturer (NASDAQ: NWPX) with $400 Million in annual revenues and plants throughout the United States and in Mexico. At Northwest Pipe, Rich was responsible for the entire legal function and served as an integral member of the senior management team. These responsibilities included securities compliance, M&A activities, business contracts, environmental, human resources and litigation.
Prior to joining Northwest Pipe in 2011, Rich was a litigation partner at two of the leading Pacific Northwest law firms—Lane Powell from 2008-2011 and Perkins Coie from 1982-2008. At both of these firms, Rich had a varied business litigation practice in the areas of contract disputes, employment and executive compensation, securities litigation and internal corporate investigations, intellectual property, and antitrust and unfair competition.
Rich joined Perkins Coie’s Seattle office in 1982 after graduating from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. Rich also has a B.A. cum laude in English from Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y.
Rich is peer-rated “AV” in Martindale Hubbell’s guide to lawyers, the highest grade possible for ethics and professionalism. Rich is admitted to the State Bars in both Oregon and Washington, as well as all of the courts in those states, plus the Ninth and D.C. Circuits.
In addition to practicing law, Rich is an avid skier, cyclist, tennis player and golfer. With his wife and best friend Janet, he also loves to travel and to cook. Rich is the proud father of five amazing young adults.
